All those on the path to spiritual progress should be aware of Buddhism's core spiritual values. Though material comforts are necessary to live well they are not the values to be sought after for spiritual growth. If we were to give prominence to material values we shall not attain spiritual heights.
The wise who are able to recognize the true values leading to spiritual attainments, are those capable of attaining spiritual heights. Such people are those who possess right views.
That which is real they know as real,
that unreal, to be unreal;
roaming fields of thought well-formed
they at the real arrive.
